Chelsea FC have confirmed the signing of Brazilian striker Alexandre Pato on loan from Corinthians till the end of the ongoing season.

The Chelsea FC-Pato saga was going on for quite some time now, and the announcement by the club has finally brought closure to the fact that the Blues will have one more forward in their squad for the remainder of the season. The Blues made the announcement official with this tweet, welcoming the 26-year-old to Stamford Bridge.

Pato was quoted saying on Chelsea FC’s official website: “I am so happy to sign for Chelsea. It is a dream for me. I am looking forward to meeting and getting to know my new team-mates and cannot wait to play. I thank Chelsea for their support and hope I can repay this faith to the club and its fans.”

The Brazilian was considered to be a potential Ballon d’Or winner when he signed for AC Milan in 2007. His pace, trickery, and finishing ability had baffled many  a defender in the Serie A, but a string of injury issues hampered what was a promising young career.

A move back to Brazil was just what the doctor ordered, however, and Pato was able to remain fit while maintaining a good goalscoring record. He has now finally signed for Chelsea FC in a bid to revive his European football career, and also to gain a place in the Brazilian national team for the Copa America this year.

Are Chelsea FC looking to replace a disgruntled Eden Hazard?

Although Pato has been a striker all his life, he has been deployed more as a left winger, ever since his move back to Brazil. Chelsea FC may not really be looking for someone to give striker Diego Costa competition.

In fact, with the signing of Brazilian, they might actually be looking to give the seemingly disgruntled Hazard competition for the role on the left of the attacking midfield. Another possibility is that the Blues are trying to slowly phase the Belgian out of the team, and Pato could help them do that if he finds his feet again at the West Londn club.
