Louis van Gaal is ready to celebrate Manchester United’s FA Cup fourth round victory against Derby County in style, as he opens up an ‘extravagant’ present from Executive vice chairman Ed Woodward.
Goals from Wayne Rooney, Daley Blind and Juan Mata inspired the Red Devils to a win over Championship side Derby County in their FA Cup tie. Although this hardly makes up for the terrible season the Red Devils are having, it provided an opportunity to celebrate after the humbling loss against Southampton last weekend.
Manager Louis van Gaal revealed that he would celebrate by enjoying some wine that Woodward had presented him after United’s 1-0 victory over Liverpool.
“I come back and my wife is at home because she was in the Netherlands, and the wine is already open,” he said, according to The Guardian.
“We drink a nice bottle of wine, probably the most expensive wine, because I have received that from Ed Woodward. I always get expensive wine when we beat an opponent of the [traditional] top six. I don’t want to mention the name because it is a little bit extravagant.”
Van Gaal is here to stay, till 2017
The Dutchman also addressed rumors of his imminent departure, confirming that he would see out his full 3 year contract, which ends in the summer of 2017.
“It is not a question of one match,” he said.” It is difficult to understand but it is a process. It is a period of three years. This board is very intelligent to understand that.”
It looks like Manchester United fans just can’t catch a break these days. While victories over minnows are celebrated with wine, the man whose style they have gotten fed up of is apparently here to stay… until 2017 at least.
