A number of the big English clubs have been linked with Alexandre Pato, but one pundit claims that they’re all playing poker with the Brazilian striker to see who can get him for the cheapest price.
Tim Vickery is the BBC’s resident South American football pundit and he had an interesting take on Alexandre Pato and his rumoured move to England. While it looks like a number of top clubs are very interested in signing the 26-year-old, the Vickery feels that it is more of a case of the South American club trying to get rid of him and English clubs looking for a bargain deal.
“Corinthians are desperate to get him off the wage bill – two agents are going round England trying to sell this player,” Vickery said on 5 live Sport. [via: BBC Radio]
“There is real scope here for a buying club, be it Chelsea or someone else, to play poker and get this player for a price so low that he will be a steal.”
The Pato saga
The most recent club to have reportedly almost confirmed a deal for the Brazilian are struggling defending champions Chelsea FC. Before that it was Liverpool FC, and earlier there was talk of Manchester United also being interested in him.
Pato broke onto the scene as a promising youngster in the red and black colors of AC Milan, but an injury in 2011 completely derailed his career and the forward found himself back in Brazil by 2013. A good run of form this season has seen him being linked with a move back to Europe this season, and it will be interesting to see who wins this ‘game of poker’ and ends up signing the striker.
