Courtois Claims West Brom Players Tried To Provoke Chelsea FC, As The Blues Manage Just A Point At Home

A draw against West Bromwich Albion at Stamford Bridge isn’t a satisfactory result for a struggling Chelsea FC side and the players were frustrated after the game, with goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois accusing the West Brom players of trying to provoke the Blues.

Both teams went home with a point after a topsy-turvy Premier League encounter between a struggling Chelsea FC side and a resilient West Brom side managed by Tony Pulis. The Blues took the lead twice, only for the Baggies to equalize each time, and the final score stood at 2-2 as the fans at Stamford Bridge continue to be unimpressed by their team’s performance this season.

During the post-match interview, Chelsea’s Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois addressed the tension between the two teams throughout the match, accusing the West Brom players of trying to get under the skin of him and his team-mates.

“It’s disappointing,” he said, according to fourfourtwo.com. “It was a tough game with them playing the long ball and, second ball, trying to provoke players.”

No more excuses for Chelsea FC

After the draw against West Brom, Chelsea FC find themselves in 14th position in the Premier League table —  just 6 points away from the relegation zone and a whopping 19 points away from the top of the table. Not an enviable position for the defending champions.

Despite Courtois’ excuses, the game against West Brom again exposed the weaknesses in the Chelsea FC defence, which had played such a huge part in their title win last season. A single point will not help ease the pressure on the Blues, who are looking to recover from a disastrous start to the season and need to start winning matches if they are to reclaim a spot in the top half of the table.
