Real Madrid got off to the perfect start under new manager Zinedine Zidane with a 5-0 thumping of Deportivo de La Coruña on Saturday, with Gareth Bale scoring a hat-trick
Gareth Bale started life under Zidane in the best manner possible, scoring a hat-trick in a resounding 5-0 victory, before being substituted to a standing ovation in the second half. However, Cristiano Ronaldo surprisingly failed to get his name on the scoresheet, and fans on Twitter were quick to react to the Portuguese’s expression as Bale scored his third goal.
There was also plenty of praise for the Welshman, who has now scored more headed goals in the top 5 European leagues than any other player this season, as well as for Zidane, whose arrival seems to have brought with it optimism and hope for the season ahead.
