Manchester United Confirmed Lineup vs Young Boys: Lindelof in for Varane; van de Beek makes rare start

Victor Lindelof comes in for Raphael Varane while Donny van de Beek makes a rare start as Manchester United prepare to take on BSC Young Boys in Bern.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has made three changes to the side that started in the 4-1 win over Newcastle United in the Premier League on the weekend as Manchester United get set to lock horns with BSC Young Boys at the Wankdorf Stadium in their opening UEFA Champions League outing of the season.

There are no shuffles in goal, where David de Gea retains his spot, with Tom Heaton and Matej Kovar being backup options. The first change comes in the defensive unit, with Victor Lindelof replacing Raphael Varane as captain Harry Maguire’s partner at the heart of the Manchester United defence. Luke Shaw and Aaron Wan-Bissaka continue as the two full-backs.

Up ahead in midfield, Solskjaer appears to be fielding a new-look double pivot. Fred has come in for Nemanja Matic as the holding midfielder while Donny van de Beek is his partner. Mason Greenwood has made way for van de Beek, who makes a rare start for Manchester United.

With Greenwood on the bench, Paul Pogba ought to move up ahead into the left wing berth, with Jadon Sancho swapping flanks. Bruno Fernandes is set to reprise his usual no. 10 role, with Cristiano Ronaldo leading the line for Manchester United against Young Boys. The likes of Anthony Martial, Greenwood and Jesse Lingard are among the attacking options on the bench.

Manchester United Starting Lineup: de Gea, Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire, Shaw, van de Beek, Fred, Sancho, Bruno Fernandes, Pogba, Ronaldo
