David De Gea is a surprise exclusion from Jose Mourinho’s match day squad as Manchester United visit the Stadium of Light to take on Sunderland.
Sergio Romero is starting in goal in De Gea’s stead, with Joel Pereira making the bench as the backup goalkeeper. Meanwhile, Paul Pogba starts for the first time in three games, with Luke Shaw also returning to the lineup.
Antonio Valencia is another surprise absentee, as Darmian starts at right-back, while Marouane Fellaini skippers the side. Academy youngsters Axel Tuanzebe and Timothy Fosu-Mensah are some other surprise names in the match day squad.
For Sunderland, former Manchester United manager David Moyes has made one change, as Victor Anichebe replaces Fabio Borini, who scored a wonder goal in the reverse fixture in December. Lee Cattermole is the Sunderland skipper.
