Real Madrid extended their lead at the top of the table to 5 points as they ran out 3-0 winners over tenth-placed Alaves at the Santiago Bernabeu on Sunday.

It wasn’t the best of performances from Real Madrid on Sunday, but Los Blancos got the required three points against Alaves with a 3-0 win at home. And Zinedine Zidane has Karim Benzema to thank as one of his goalscorers on the evening, as he broke the deadlock at the half hour mark.

Benzema was the catalyst in the move that ultimately ended with him scoring the goal, as he released Dani Carvajal on the right flank, who pulled the ball back to find the Frenchman. And Benzema obliged after finding himself in some space inside the Alaves box, by unleashing a sweetly struck left foot volley.

Isco and Nacho then rounded off the win in the dying stages of the match to earn Real Madrid the three points and extend their lead over Barcelona, who play later on Sunday, to five points.
