Real Madrid’s incredible unbeaten run finally came to a grinding halt, and it was captain Sergio Ramos who triggered the Sevilla comeback that brought about the end of the record breaking streak.
Real Madrid led their second match against Sevilla in four days through Cristiano Ronaldo’s 67th minute penalty, and looked set to extend their remarkable unbeaten streak to 41 games.
However, with just five minutes left in regulation time, the unthinkable happened. Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos, who has made it a habit to score crucial goals for his side, turned the ball into his own net from Pablo Sarabia’s free kick in the 85th minute.
That Ramos own goal triggered Sevilla’s comeback, and Stevan Jovetic drove home the winner in injury time to lead the hosts to a 2-1 win, end Real Madrid’s streak and climb up to second in the La Liga table with 39 points, just one behind Los Blancos.
