Manchester United and England captain Wayne Rooney was photographed drinking at a wedding last month, which gave rise to a lot of headlines in the media over the player’s lack of professionalism. Managers of rival clubs voiced their opinion and backed the 31-year-old, but Rooney was still expected to issue a public apology.
Speaking to the Sunday Supplement, former Red Devils defender Gary Neville blasted the FA for the handling of the entire fiasco. Neville feels it was unfair to single out the United captain, as the entire England squad was out drinking, but had not been pictured.
The TV pundit also said that the England sides of the past would have come out together and taken the collective responsibility in the scenario.
