Matthew Willock gave Warren Joyce’s men the lead in the Manchester Derby in the new and revamped Premier League 2.
Much was talked about Manchester United’s Under 23 squad to represent them in Premier League 2. United had sent almost all of their Reserves squad or Under 21 squad on loan and the Red Devils’ second team seemed to be lacking a natural striker up-front.
There were question marks raised as to where the goals are going to come from for Warren Joyce’s side as United were tipped to face defeat at the hands of their neighbouring rivals Manchester City in the Premier League 2 derby the night before the senior derby.

But, 20-year-old midfielder Matthew Willock allayed fears of a battering as he balanced the ball on his feet, shrugged past two defenders before slotting the ball into the net with a low left-foot finish from just inside the penalty box.
The game may have ended in a draw but Willock’s goal is likely to give the Under-23 squad a boost of morale, which was certainly needed after the departure of the team’s captain James Weir at the business-end of the transfer window.
