Liverpool faced defeat in their second game of the 2016-17 season at the hands of Burnley by a scoreline of 2-0.
Liverpool fans were confident of another win as they traveled to Burnley after a scintillating display of attacking prowess in a narrow 4-3 win over Arsenal. But they were in for a shock as the Reds were undone by a very mechanical Burnley side who made their few chances count.
Liverpool dominated the whole game and had 26 attempts compared to Burnley’s 3, but the home side were efficient in converting their chances as they raced to a 2-0 lead in the first half. They did an admirable job at keeping the Reds’ attackers at bay, especially after their red hot display against Arsenal.
The twitteratis were out in full force against Liverpool, trolling the side and their fans as the club fell to a 2-0 defeat to comparative minnows Burnley while Liverpool fans expressed their disappointment on the famous social media platform.
oi…what happened to Liverpool today…Burnley gave them a brushing!! top 4 aint LFC!

I wonder if I should wear a Liverpool shirt on judgment day just to convince God that I have been through hell already.

Welcome back Liverpool FC.

Typical Liverpool. Plays well against big teams, bad against small teams. If Klopp can’t change that this season he should leave.

Stats also seemed to back the popular opinion that Liverpool are yet to show a consistent run of form beginning from the pre-season and were very stale in possession despite rocking a record possession percentage.
80.6% – Against Burnley, Liverpool posted the highest possession figure for a losing side in the PL since 2003/04. Sterile.

While Burnley’s Steven Defour was plauded for a near-flawless performance on his Burnley debut, fans and pundits alike pointed fingers at the displays by Clyne, Mignolet and Sturridge.
Steven Defour: first game, first assist, 2-0 up against Liverpool. Not a bad start. #twitterclarets #LFC
— Kristof Terreur (@HLNinEngeland) August 20, 2016
@hillardm Defour was a class act today, seems we’ve signed a good one. Another class finish by Wales’ finest big Sam!

Nice of Clyne to take the media & fan attention off Moreno. Proper team player.
— Jase (@RobertsJase) August 20, 2016
I can’t be the only one who thinks Clyne gets an easy ride while everyone picks on Moreno #LFC
— Kirk (@TomPetty17) August 20, 2016
Clyne was on of the worst players on the pitch today! His misplaced pass changed everything today. Absolutely gutted! #LFC

Lovren & Clyne are the new Johnson and Skrtel.
The way they let players through from the wing is quite smooth.
After you mate…..

Mignolet’s positioning is awful. Everything you hit will go in..
— Arka Dasgupta (@PAPAN07_LFC) August 20, 2016
I really don’t think mignolet deserves to start for a club like Liverpool. Smh when is Karius coming back ?
— Johnnie Walker (@RJ_Cam) August 20, 2016
Rather have karius with broken hand than mignolet
