Manchester City have seen off competition from the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona, Inter Milan and cross town rivals Manchester United to secure the signature of 19-year old Gabriel Jesus. The young Brazilian will be loaned back to Palmeiras and will join up with Pep Guardiola’s side in January next year.
The Guardian reported that the initial fee of £27 million could rise up to £31 million with add-ons. The Brazilian is Manchester City’s sixth signing of the summer after Nolito, Ilkay Gundogan, Leroy Sane, Oleksandr Zinchenko, and Aaron Mooy. Jesus seemed extremely pleased to have joined the English giants. Speaking to Manchester City’s official website, he said “Manchester City is one of the best clubs in the world so I’m really pleased to sign. We have many great talents in the team and a fantastic manager in Pep Guardiola that I can learn so much from. I’m looking forward to showing the City fans what I can do and I think we’ll have a great future together!”
The forward has been subject to interest from Europe’s biggest clubs this summer, with Manchester United and Inter Milan coming close to signing the young forward. Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona were also reported to be going head to head for his signature, but he was ultimately sold on the idea of working with Pep Guardiola and the prospect of being a part of a new revolution in Manchester.
The exciting signing of Gabriel Jesus highlights 2 things: City’s intense focus on youth talent AND confidence in current core for results
