Germany Confirmed Lineup vs Ukraine: Hummels, Schweinsteiger dropped by Low – Euro 2016

Joachim Low has named his starting lineup for Germany’s first Euro 2016 match against Ukraine, and the 56-year-old has left out a couple of star names like Bayern Munich defender Mats Hummels and Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger.

However, in Low’s defence, the German starting XI looks just as dangerous as the team that won the 2014 World Cou a couple of years back.

Hummels, who has recently taken a transfer from Borussia Dortmund to Bayern Munich, will be replaced by Valencia defender Shkodran Mustafi in the heart of the defence, while Toni Kroos and Sami Khedira take charge of the midfield, in place of the out of from Manchester United man Schweinsteiger.

Mario Gotze, who had mostly been sidelined at Bayern Munich, gets a start in national team colours. Interestingly, Low has not fielded any out and out striker against Ukraine. It will be interesting to see whether Gotze or his Bayern teammate Thomas Muller plays as the false no.9, ahead of Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil.
