England are all set to kick off their Euro 2016 campaign against Russia, and manager Roy Hogdson has chosen the mouthwatering combination of Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney and Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane up front.
There is little surprise in Hodgson’s lineup, with Chelsea’s Gary Cahill and United’s Chris Smalling manning the defence, flanked by Spurs fullbacks Kyle Walker and Danny Rose. Interestingly, yet another Spurs combination is set to dictate the midfield, with the presence of Eric Dier and Dele Alli.
This combination allows England to shift between the 4-4-2 and the 4-2-3-1 formations, with Rooney doubling up as a strike partner for Kane, and as a no.10 behind the Tottenham man, when required.
