Chelsea FC fans have received the news of another centre-back signing with much trepidation, as young New York Red Bulls centre-back Matt Miazga prepares for Stamford Bridge switch.
The January transfer period has been somewhat underwhelming from the point of view of Chelsea FC, and seems to be uncannily similar to the summer transfer window. The Blues are signing yet another striker potentially past his best on loan, and could now round up the winter market with the signing of a defender that none of the Stamford Bridge faithful had hitherto heard of.
In the summer, it was Michael Hector and Papy Djilobodji that caused much amusement among the Blues’ supporters. This time, it is the turn of New York Red Bulls centre-back Matt Miazga. According to ESPN FC, the 20-year-old has less than a year left on his contract and wanted to test himself overseas. Miazga fortunately also carries a Polish passport and will not require a work permit to play his trade in England.
The news elicited different reactions from Chelsea FC fans on Twitter, with some optimistic that the youngster could make his mark at Stamford Bridge, while others expect him to be the next Papy Djilobodji. Here are some of the best reactions:

The million dollar question is can Matt Miazga fill in Djilobodji’s boots?

Matt Miazga, Michael Hector and Papy Djilobodji = back 3 in our Glenn Hoddle coached 2017/2018 Championship playoff winning side.

If this Matt Miazga guy sends Andreas Christensen down the pecking order next season, I will be angry.

I really don’t know why people think that Miazga being loaned out by Chelsea is like some bad outcome for Miazga.

Matt Miazga can be the first American to play for Chelsea in the Premier League (though he’ll probably be loaned out).

Always regarded Matt Miazga as a CB who is well ahead of the others from his age group. Lost out on Stones but getting a better player.

Miazga looks a decent CB, doesn’t back off like Cahill. Still not entirely encouraging though, should be using Cahill for Stones.
