Arsene Wenger has finally addressed a long term need of Arsenal FC by signing a holding midfielder, namely Mohamed Elneny from Swiss club FC Basel and kicking off the Gunner’s January transfer window transactions.
The 23-year-old Egyptian midfielder has been announced as the first signing of the January transfer window by Arsenal FC and provides some welcome respite to the injury stricken Gunners squad. Arsenal fans took to twitter to welcome him to the Emirates Stadium and were delighted with Wenger’s astute signing.

Parlour on Elneny: “He’s good on the ball, very energetic around the pitch, so this is a great option [to have] for Arsène Wenger.” #afc

Wenger’s Elneny purchase must have been forced through by the holding midfield’s abysmal display yesterday.Very welcome?.One more to go.? — Matthew 10:16 (@CamerHunk) January 14, 2016
If Elneny is as good as advertised the nice thing is we will have healthy competition between him and Coquelin for the DM role. Big plus.

ElNeny straight into the XI to partner Ramsey; instantly improves our passing, mobility and energy in midfield. — Dezil Dez (@DezilDez) January 14, 2016
The midfielder has long been linked with a move to Arsenal and definitely has the talent to make the holding midfield position his own…
This is what we can look forward to with Elneny. pic.twitter.com/ASIkjjRL0J

But the sad news is that his arrival could provoke the Arsenal fans into singing a parody of a much maligned pop song. This concern was also raised by the Twitterati.
New chant for Arsenal fans “Now watch me whip, Watch Elneny, watch me whip watch Elneny, oh watch me, watch me…” Rinse and repeat

If our chant for Elneny isn’t ‘Watch me whip, now watch Elneny’, I’ll be disappointed. #Arsenal #Elneny

If “watch me whip watch me ElNeny” becomes a chant at Arsenal I’ve given up on the future of football — Juan Mata (@JuanMataTouch) January 14, 2016
