Tiredness Could Be Affecting Cornell Glen’s Form, Says Mohun Bagan Assistant Coach Shankar Lal Chakraborty

Mohun Bagan are three points clear at the top of the I-League table and are unbeaten so far in this season’s I-League, but a big concern for their fans is the frm of star striker Cornell Glen.

The Trinidad & Tobago World Cupper had started off the season in great style, scoring four goals in five goals in four matches in all competitions. His form has dwindled since the 3-1 victory over Singapore club Tampines Rovers in the AFC Champions League qualifiers. Sincce then, Glen has failed to score in any of the last five I-League matches.

However, Mohun Bagan assistant coach Shankar Lal Chakraborty believes that it is only a bad phase that the 34-year-old is going through right now, and it’s only a matter of time that Glen gets back to form.

“Everyone goes through patches of bad form. Every player has their own way of playing. While Katsumi and Sony are fast, Glen is someone who likes to hold on to the ball and play,” said Chakraborty. “But that’s not a concern. He’s been playing a match every two-three days. So a bit of tiredness might be creeping in.”

Bagan not bothered by Luciano, Pronay suspension

The Mariners now have a nice five-day rest ahead of their away match against Salgaocar, but Mohun Bagan would be have to look to make some changes in their personnel for the match, as both Luciano Sabrosa and Pronay Halder picked up a booking each in the Sporting match, rendering themselves suspended for the next game.

However, Chakraborty believes that the club is not fazed by the fact that two first team regulars are suspended for the game. He believes that the Mariners have a squad that is strong enough to take care of situations such as these.

“The squad that we have this season, one any player can come in and fill the shoes of the other. That is nothing of such concern,” said Chakraborty. “Injuries and suspensions are part and parcel of the game. we have prepared for such situations. Every player knows that even if they get 10 minutes on the pitch, they need to give their best.”
