Crystal Palace could be inching closer to bringing Thomas Frank to Selhurst Park as a replacement for the under-fire Pierre Sage.
Thomas Frank is emerging as the clear target for Crystal Palace as they look to find a replacement for Pierre Sage, according to Football Insider. The Eagles are yet to make a decision on the French manager, but should they end up dismissing him from his post, the 53-year-old former Tottenham manager is seen as the favourite to take over.
Following the 2-0 loss to Newcastle United at Selhurst Park last weekend, Crystal Palace sit a point above the relegation zone, and this is not the picture painted when they appointed Pierre Sage. Given it was always a difficult task to replace Oliver Glasner, Sage did come with his own big reputation for his work with RC Lens in France, helping the team finish as close runners-up in Ligue 1 last season.
Meanwhile, the new head coach has come under increasing pressure to keep his job at Selhurst Park, with many names already being mentioned as his potential replacement. That includes Thomas Frank, a manager Palace were keen to appoint as Glasner’s successor earlier in the year but ended up adding the Frenchman to the club instead.
As things stand, it feels like a matter of time before the South Londoners sack Sage, although he may still have a few games to try to save his job. Things do point towards a dismissal and the appointment of a new manager in the Selhurst Park dugout.
Thomas Frank the favourite for the Crystal Palace job
Crystal Palace have already considered Frank to replace Sage, though the club are looking at several names in the market. A report stated that the Eagles prefer a free-agent manager rather than targeting someone they may have to pay a compensation fee for.
Frank is currently a free agent, according to the report, following his dismissal from Tottenham earlier in 2026, and is currently a top target for Palace. The Danish manager’s extensive experience managing Brentford and then Spurs adds to his reputation, as Palace are not the only team keen, with Fulham also interested should they dismiss Alvaro Arbeloa.
As for Palace, they may view Frank as the ideal successor for tactical reasons too, as the 53-year-old former Tottenham manager tends to play with a back three. More importantly, the need to find an experienced boss will lead them towards the Dane, as the process could begin as soon as they sack Sage in the coming period.
