Nottingham Forest have reportedly launched an extraordinary £70 million bid to sign Brentford striker Igor Thiago as they look to make a major attacking addition before the summer transfer window closes.
According to Rudy Galetti via X, Forest have submitted the huge proposal for the 25-year-old Brazilian, whose future at Brentford has attracted increasing attention following an outstanding 2025/26 campaign. Thiago remains tied to the Bees until 2031, putting Brentford in an extremely strong negotiating position. However, an offer of £70m could test their resolve during the closing stages of the window.
Forest make ambitious move for Thiago
Forest’s interest comes as they look to strengthen Oliver Glasner’s attacking options following a difficult start to the new Premier League campaign.
A defeat against Leeds United in Glasner’s first game has increased the pressure ahead of a demanding run of fixtures against Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa. Forest already have several centre-forward options, including Igor Jesus, Chris Wood and Arnaud Kalimuendo, but their pursuit of Thiago suggests they are prepared to make a significant investment to add another proven goalscorer.
Thiago certainly demonstrated his credentials last season.
The Brazilian enjoyed an excellent 2025/26 campaign for Brentford, scoring 25 goals in 40 appearances across all competitions. His performances have consequently increased his profile and attracted interest heading into the final stages of the market.
Whether Brentford are prepared to entertain Forest’s proposal remains unclear and Thiago’s long-term contract means there is little pressure on the London club to sell, particularly this late in the window when finding an adequate replacement could prove difficult. However, £70m represents an enormous investment from Forest and is substantial enough to potentially force discussions behind the scenes.
Much could therefore depend on Brentford’s valuation of the striker and whether Thiago himself is interested in making the switch. Forest’s willingness to submit such a sizeable bid also underlines their determination to strengthen Glasner’s squad rather than allowing their difficult opening result to dictate the direction of the season.
£70m would be a remarkable amount for Forest to spend on another centre-forward, particularly given the attacking options already available to Glasner. Thiago’s 25-goal campaign explains the attraction, though. Proven Premier League goalscorers are extremely difficult to find, and Forest clearly believe the Brazilian could transform their attack. Brentford hold virtually all the negotiating power because of his contract until 2031. If Forest genuinely want this done before the deadline, £70m may therefore be the beginning of the conversation rather than the end of it.
