Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United are reportedly keen on acquiring the services of Inter Milan midfield mainstay Davide Frattesi.
According to a report from L’Interista, Newcastle United are plotting a raid on Inter Milan to sign Davide Frattesi. While the Magpies already have a packed midfield, they want to further strengthen their rotation, and an experienced campaigner like the Italian international could be a perfect fit.
Frattesi joined Inter Milan in the summer of 2023 from Sassuolo. The Nerazzurri signed him initial loan deal, but the move was made permanent in the following summer thanks to his impressive performances. Over the years, the 26-year-old has featured in 119 matches, and he has contributed towards 27 goals.
While he had quite an impact in his debut campaign with 15 goal contributions in just over 1,500 minutes, the Italian international has never really had a prominent role at Inter Milan. He has always been used as a rotational option. As a result, Frattesi has often been linked with a move away from the club.
Davide Frattesi could finally leave Inter Milan
Despite being linked with a number of clubs from across Europe every summer, the 29-year-old has continued at Inter Milan. However, it might finally change this time around as a host of clubs from the Serie A and the Premier League are interested in him.
While the Italian midfielder prefers playing as a central midfielder, he is capable enough to take up an attacking role. Frattesi had the composure, ability to control the tempo and creativity. In simple terms, he has all the qualities needed to succeed at the top, and a more prominent role could certainly help.
He prefers staying in Italy, but it seems unlikely that any Serie A club would be willing to meet Inter Milan’s asking price of €35 million. Since he will have two years left on his deal in the summer, the Milan-based outfit are unlikely to budge on their demands.
Newcastle United could raid Inter Milan for Frattesi
While Serie A clubs will struggle to land Frattesi, the report suggests Newcastle United are keen on securing his signature and paying the €35 million won’t be a problem for them. The Magpies already have some quality options in midfield, but Howe wants more competition.
With Sandro Tonali’s future up in the air, they are looking to add more quality, and an experienced campaigner like Frattesi could certainly help. Not only can they meet Inter’s demands, but the Tyneside club would also easily hand him a significant pay hike as well. As a result, it will be interesting to see if the 26-year-old is ready to make the jump to the Premier League.
