Manchester United face PSG battle in Lewis Miley race

Manchester United are all set to face stiff competition from PSG in their pursuit of Newcastle academy graduate Lewis Miley.

Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United are gearing up for an important transfer window, where the challenge will be to keep hold of some of their biggest stars. The likes of Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali, Tino Livramento, Anthony Gordon and Nick Woltemade have all been linked with a move away.

Apart from the stars, there is interest in the services of their teenage midfield sensation, Lewis Miley. According to a report from TEAMtalk, Manchester United and PSG are both keen on signing the Newcastle graduate this summer.

Miley has come up the ranks at some pace. He got promoted to the Tyneside club’s first team in the summer of 2023. He had an impressive debut campaign, but his progress was ruined because of a metatarsal fracture in his second season.

However, the 19-year-old has regained full fitness and has been putting in impressive performances for the Magpies in the ongoing campaign. Overall, he has 77 first-team appearances and 14 goal contributions. While he prefers playing in central midfield, Howe has also used him as a right-sided full-back this term.

Manchester United want Miley in their squad

Despite playing in an unfamiliar position, he has done quite well. His impressive rise has resulted in a lot of interest from across Europe. Manchester United are one of the clubs that have been keeping tabs on him for years. They have been scouting him since 2023, even before he made his first team debut.

Their interest remains active, as they continue to monitor his progress. The Red Devils are set to revamp their midfield with Casemiro leaving and Manuel Ugarte likely to be sold. Miley could be a great acquisition for them. His versatility could come in handy, as United also seek more depth on the right flank.

PSG to rival the Red Devils

While United are willing to push hard, they will face stiff competition from PSG, who have been monitoring him since his breakthrough moment against them back in 2023. He further enhanced his reputation when the two teams met in January in the reverse fixture.

Miley featured as a right wing-back in that game, as the Magpies secured a 1-1 draw at Parc des Princes. The French giants are massive admirers of the youngster and want to make him a part of their long-term plans.
