Manchester United have set an asking price of €20-25 million for their misfit Manuel Ugarte, amidst interest from Juventus.
Having secured the long-term future of their manager, Luciano Spalletti, Juventus now have some big plans for the summer. They want to revamp their midfield, and Manchester United’s Manuel Ugarte is quite high on their wishlist.
The South American midfielder is expected to be on the move this summer, but according to a report from Calciomercatoweb, the Red Devils want €20-25 million for the 25-year-old defensive midfielder, while the Old Lady are hoping to secure his services on an initial loan with an option to buy.
Manuel Ugarte had an impressive rise at Sporting CP, and on the back of it, he made the move to PSG. While things did not work out for him at the French club, Manchester United still forked out €50 million to add him to their ranks in the summer of 2024.
They had massive expectations from him, but he has not been able to live up to them. Having racked up fewer than 1,000 minutes in his 23 appearances this term, it is pretty much certain that he will be on the move this summer. The Red Devils are plotting a midfield revamp, and they want to cut their losses on Ugarte.
Manchester United want Ugarte off their books
Getting Manuel Ugarte off their books will help them raise a decent fee and make room on their wage bill for some blockbuster signings. With Casemiro also leaving, Manchester United are expected to sign multiple midfielders in the summer.
Despite having forked out €50 million on him, the Red Devils are ready to sell him for half that price. However, Juventus are not willing to secure his services on a permanent basis from the start. They want him on a temporary basis, as it will allow them the opportunity to watch him up close before making a big financial commitment.
Spalletti has quality midfield options at his disposal, but he is determined to strengthen the rotation. As a result, Juventus are expected to eventually hold talks with United. Given the good relationship between the two teams, there are chances of something working out.
