According to a report from Football Transfers, the North London club are looking to sign Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United. They are ready to table an offer for the English international, as Mikel Arteta looks to change his transfer strategy.
The Spanish manager is now keen on building a core around English players. He believes Gordon could significantly bolster their attack. He could be a great upgrade on Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard on the left flank.
After making a name for himself at Everton, Gordon made the move to the Tyneside club at the start of 2023, and he hasn’t looked back since. He has established himself as a key figure under Eddie Howe, and his consistent performances have attracted a lot of interest.
While Newcastle haven’t been at their best this season, the 25-year-old has once again stood out with his performances. He has been involved in a total of 45 matches across competitions and has contributed towards 22 goals.
Newcastle could cash in on Gordon
Reports earlier suggested that the Magpies had no intentions of selling him this summer. But it seems they would be willing to cash in on a few of their stars, as they plot a major rebuild. Gordon could be on the move for the right price, and Arsenal are gearing up to make an offer.
They are prepared to table an offer after the end of the ongoing campaign. The Gunners want an English core; they recently added Noni Madueke and Eberechi Eze, and already have Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka in their ranks.
While he is currently valued at €51.9 million, the Magpies will certainly demand an even bigger fee to let go of one of their mainstays. Reports suggest Martinelli could be on the move this summer; as a result, Gordon could take his place in the team.
