Daniel Farke’s Leeds United are reportedly ready to sanction the departure of Joel Piroe, who is surplus to requirements.
Leeds United have started planning for the upcoming transfer window. While their focus is on ensuring they survive in the English top flight, the Yorkshire-based outfit are already thinking about ways to further bolster their squad.
Daniel Farke wants to bring in a new striker, but before they go ahead with that, Leeds United are looking to offload misfit Joel Piroe, as per a report from Football Insider. The 26-year-old has gone down the pecking order this season, and they are looking to make room for a new forward by cashing in on him.
Joel Piroe’s time at Leeds United could come to an end
Joel Piroe joined the Yorkshire-based outfit in the summer of 2023 after making a name for himself at Swansea. While the player was an integral part of their first team until last season and played a massive part in their promotion with 19 goals in the Championship, he has lost prominence under Farke.
Piroe has been involved in just 17 matches, and he has racked up only 528 minutes of first-team action. The 26-year-old has found the back of the net just once. The Dutch-born striker is no longer an important part of their plans, and since he is set to enter the final year of his deal, the upcoming transfer window is their final opportunity to raise a decent fee from his sale.
Leeds United to sign a new striker this summer
However, Leeds United’s striker plans depend on which league they are playing in come the 2026/27 season. If the West Yorkshire outfit manage to survive the drop, they will go after a new striker, someone who can compete with Dominic Calvert-Lewin for a place in the starting XI. In that case, Piroe’s departure is given.
While Calvert-Lewin has done a decent job for them and has managed to return to the England setup, he has been a touch inconsistent of late. As a result, Farke wants someone who can challenge him moving forward, which is why Piroe will most likely make way this summer.
Even the 26-year-old is frustrated by the lack of minutes and would prefer to join a team where he can have a prominent role. So, a move away from Elland Road is on the cards for Piroe.
