Manchester United and Real Madrid are part of a four-way battle for the services of Cristian Romero, as a Tottenham exit seems likely.
According to Fichajes, Cristian Romero is the subject of massive interest from top clubs in the market, with as many as four suitors part of the battle. Tottenham could sell the player to balance their finances in the event of relegation, as Manchester United and Real Madrid are part of the running.
Cristian Romero could be one of the first high-profile players walking through the exit door at Tottenham, especially if they suffer relegation. Spurs are in a precarious position heading into the weekend, with the north Londoners sitting only a point above the danger zone.
In the event they do go down, a host of their players, including Romero, are expected to look for a new club. The Argentine World Cup winner will have his choice of suitors, with as many as four high-profile clubs vying for his signature, including Manchester United and Real Madrid.
Paul Scholes had recommended earlier that Manchester United make their move for Romero, and it appears the Red Devils are considering the idea. They are keen to add a new defender as a long-term replacement for Harry Maguire, although they are not actively parting ways with the latter at the moment.
Manchester United are not alone, as the likes of Atletico Madrid are seen as the likeliest destination for the 27-year-old Tottenham star at the moment. Inter Milan completes the four-way battle for Romero, as Spurs might be willing to sell the Argentine in the summer if they can get around £60 million for the defender.
Cristian Romero to Leave Tottenham?
Real Madrid are also keen, and probably represents one of the biggest clubs in the mix for Romero at the current moment. The defender only signed a new deal, which theoretically allows Spurs to command a high price, but the prospect of relegation could reduce their bargaining power.
Real Madrid are keen to add an experienced defender, with the 27-year-old Tottenham star likely to be seen as the replacement for Antonio Rüdiger. Florentino Pérez was interested in Romero earlier, and now might be the best chance for the Madrid supremo to land the coveted Argentine for a reasonable price.
