Scott McTominay rules out Napoli exit

Manchester United have received a massive blow in their pursuit to bring Scott McTominay back to the club.

Scott McTominay seems to have taken his game to the next level since joining Napoli from Manchester United. Thanks to his consistent performances for the Italian outfit, he has been constantly linked with a move away. The Red Devils are interested in bringing him back to Old Trafford.

McTominay won’t be leaving Napoli

McTominay’s future might have been a big talking point, but the player doesn’t seem to be bothered about all the rumours. He has made it clear that his agents haven’t spoken to any club and that he is content at Napoli.

While speaking about his future to Corrieredellosport, the 29-year-old said, ‘My agent has not communicated with anyone regarding my future,’

‘He only speaks with me and with the club. He hasn’t said anything to the newspapers. I am extremely happy here and, as far as I am concerned, I am a Napoli player; it is all I think about.

‘The future is very important, and I could see myself in Napoli for a long time.

‘I love this place. Difficulties have been minimal, my family is happy and I’m happy.’

McTominay came up the ranks at Manchester United and was a part of their first team for seven years. While he was an important part of their team, he slowly lost prominence, and after going down the pecking order, he ended up leaving the club to join the Naples-based club in the summer of 2024.

McTominay’s dream start at Napoli

The Scottish midfielder ended up having a dream debut campaign at the Italian club. Not only did he help the club win the league, but he was also adjudged the Serie A’s footballer of the year. The 29-year-old finished with 13 goals and six assists in his 39 outings last season and ended up getting nominated for the Ballon d’Or.

The United graduate has carried that form into the new season, and on the back of his consistent performances, the Red Devils are seriously considering re-signing him. United seek more quality in the centre of the park. With Casemiro leaving the club at the end of the season, they felt McTominay could be the best possible replacement given the amount of experience he has.

While they do have other top names on their wishlist, United would have loved to bring the Scottish international back. However, it seems McTominay is not too keen on a return. He is loving life at Napoli under Antonio Conte and wants to continue at the club. While his current deal runs until the summer of 2028, he won’t mind staying in Naples even beyond his current contract.

Meanwhile, the Italian club are also keen on extending his contract until 2030 on the back of his sensational performances over the last 18 months. He has become one of the leaders of their team, and they want him around for as long as possible.
