Manchester United are ready to sell Mason Mount ahead of the summer following his inconsistent displays and injury issues since joining.
According to Football Insider, Mason Mount could be shown the door at Manchester United ahead of the summer. The attacking midfielder has failed to live up to expectations since joining the club in 2023, with injuries and lack of consistency likely to play a big role in the club’s decision-making.
Mason Mount was supposed to be a transformational signing when Manchester United spent heavily to recruit the former Chelsea man in 2023. The attacking midfielder was bright in his early period at Old Trafford, but injuries have taken the front seat in determining the direction of travel.
Mount has not played more than 17 Premier League games in each of his three seasons here, and is expected to surpass that tally this time around. However, the overall picture has been a bit grim considering how he was at Chelsea and has seemingly failed to deliver on the promise at Old Trafford.
Some reports suggested Manchester United were ready to sell him ahead of January, as was the case in other stories during last summer. The idea in the close season stemmed from the club’s signing of Matheus Cunha.
Neither of those scenarios materialised, as Manchester United seemingly ruled out a January sale, but they might be open ahead of the summer. Mount has barely featured under interim boss Michael Carrick, with the former midfielder reportedly insisting that parting ways could be the best option for all parties concerned.
Mason Mount to leave Manchester United?
Mount is contracted to the club until 2028, before which, Manchester United could potentially extend his deal by another season via a club option. Should they receive big interest ahead of the summer, there’s the potential to sell the 27-year-old injury-struck Erik ten Hag signing, with many within the club losing confidence.
It remains to be seen whether Mount generates interest in the market, given his dodgy injury history, as some of the top six sides may stay away from this idea. It’s not to say some of the mid-table sides might show an interest, but much will depend on Mount and the decision he makes over his future.
