Tottenham eyeing Gareth Southgate as Thomas Frank replacement

Tottenham are looking to appoint former England boss Gareth Southgate as their new manager to replace Thomas Frank.

After months of struggle, Tottenham have finally parted ways with Thomas Frank. The former Brentford boss has not had the desired impact at the North London club, and he has finally been shown the exit door. Now, Spurs are on the lookout for the best possible replacement, and there are quite a few high-profile names on their wishlist.

According to a report from TEAMtalk, Tottenham are keen on appointing Gareth Southgate as their new manager. Given his impressive track record with the England national team, Spurs are confident about him being the ideal choice to lead their project.

Ange Postecoglou led Tottenham to the UEFA Europa League title last season, ending their 17-year-long wait for a major piece of silverware. However, it was not enough for him to keep his job. Poor performances in the league resulted in his sacking, and they brought in Thomas Frank, with hopes of doing well both domestically and in Europe.

However, Frank failed to get his ideas across to the player, and they were never really on the same wavelength. While he had a promising start, eventually things started to collapse. He led them in a total of 38 matches, winning just 13 and suffering defeat in 15 of them.

Southgate to replace Frank?

Following their 2-1 defeat to Newcastle United at home, Spurs decided to sack Frank. The atmosphere within the camp was not that great, and with results not going their way, the club chiefs were worried about where the project was headed. As a result, parting ways with the former Brentford boss seemed to be the right call.

CEO Vinai Venkatesham and Peter Charrington played a massive part in the decision. They are now on the lookout for their next manager. While there is no shortage of names, former England boss Gareth Southgate has emerged as a surprise contender for the job.

People at the North London club rate him very highly and would love him on their bench. They believe his leadership, calmness and player‑management skills could do wonders for them. While they are keen on appointing him, it remains to be seen if he would be open to a move to Spurs.
