Arsenal and Manchester United keen on Leon Goretzka

Arsenal and Manchester United are looking towards Leon Goretzka with a bargain move for the Bundesliga star, possibly on the cards.

According to Fussballdaten, Arsenal and Manchester United are among the big contenders for Leon Goretzka ahead of the summer window. The midfielder is set to leave Bayern Munich once his deal there expires, as the Premier League duo are looking at a bargain move for the Bundesliga star.

Leon Goretzka could be one of the sought-after free agents in the summer window, after Bayern. Munich confirmed he will leave once the season ends. The decision comes after talks between both parties, as the German international will call time on his eight-year stay with the Bavarians.

Goretzka packs plenty of experience, and despite the rise of other stars in the Bayern Munich squad, he’s still seen as a key member by manager Vincent Kompany. At 30, the German international could still offer a lot for years to come, but his future is away from the Bavarians, which has alerted several clubs, including two gigantic ones in the Premier League.

Manchester United are planning on a midfield rebuild in the summer, and they could make moves for talented young stars as well as those with massive experience. The likes of Adam Wharton remain high on their list, while others like Carlos Baleba and Elliot Anderson have been consistently mentioned in reports as big targets.

The idea of adding Goretzka could solve their issue in the middle as veteran Casemiro is leaving once his deal at the club expires. Having a mix of young and experienced stars makes for the right balance, as the Red Devils could eye a bargain move for the Bundesliga star.

Are Arsenal the favourites for Leon Goretzka?

Arsenal were linked with a late move in January for Goretzka after the injury to Mikel Merino, with the Spaniard now widely expected to miss the remainder of the campaign. Hence, the stories linking them to the German midfielder made plenty of sense, but neither Bayern nor the player was expected to make a midseason departure.

Arsenal are reportedly still interested in Goretzka ahead of the summer, and given their current trajectory as a club, they could be a favourite to sign him. It remains to be seen which route Goretzka prefers, as he might also consider Turkey as a destination, with the report naming Galatasaray and Fenerbahce as possible suitors for the Bayern star.
