Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal are preparing a massive player-plus-cash deal to sign Atletico Madrid attacking mainstay Julian Alvarez.
While Mikel Arteta is completely focused on helping the club win major titles this season, Arsenal have already started planning for the long run. In order to further bolster the Spanish manager’s squad, the North London club are ready to make another marquee attacking sensation.
The Gunners have a long-standing interest in Atletico Madrid’s Julian Alvarez, and now they have decided to step up their interest. According to a report from TEAMtalk, Arsenal are ready to put forward a significant financial offer and are also willing to offer two first-team stars in a player-plus-cash deal to sign the Argentine World Cup winner.
Alvarez made quite a name for himself while playing for Manchester City in the Premier League. But with Erling Haaland leading the line for Pep Guardiola’s team, the Argentine was often asked to play out of position and never really became a regular starter.
In search of a more prominent role, he ended up making the move to Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2024. He has only gone from strength to strength since moving to Spain. The 25-year-old has established himself as the leader of their attack.
In the ongoing campaign, he has 11 goals and five assists in his 30 outings across competitions. While his contract runs until the summer of 2030, reports suggest he could look to move on as he feels frustrated at the Madrid-based club. More importantly, Atletico could look to cash in on him for the right price.
Arsenal plot raid on Atletico Madrid
Arsenal have made Alvarez a priority target to reshape their attack. They are willing to break the bank for him. They have already registered interest via intermediaries after they were informed about his availability.
The situation has developed a lot in recent days. Senior figures at the club are discussing his signing, and they are ready to offer two players, along with cash, to convince Atletico to sell one of the best forwards in the world. Arsenal chief Andrea Berta, who originally signed him for the Spanish club, is fully aware of his situation and is looking to bring him to North London.
Since Arsenal’s financial situation do not allow them to put forward an all-cash deal, they are looking to offer Brazilian duo Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli as make-weight to lower the overall cost of the operation. It will be interesting to see if Atletico are willing to go forward with such a deal. Both players have been linked with a move away, and the La Liga outfit have shown interest in them in the past.
