Manchester United could make late January move for Joao Gomes

Manchester United are plotting a late raid on Wolves for their midfield mainstay Joao Gomes, who is keen on making the switch.

Manchester United are looking to reinforce their midfield before the end of the ongoing transfer window. They want to bring in a world-class midfielder on a priority basis, and according to a report from TEAMtalk, the Red Devils have their eyes set on Wolves’ Joao Gomes.

They could go all out to sign the Brazilian in the final days of the transfer window. The player reportedly wants the move, which certainly makes the task a touch easier for Michael Carrick’s United.

Gomes hasn’t looked back since joining Wolves at the start of 2023. He established himself as one of their mainstays in no time and has only gone from strength to strength over the years.

The 24-year-old is quite highly rated because of his consistent performances in the Premier League. While he prefers playing as a number eight, he is equally comfortable being a six or even a ten if needed.

While Gomes’ contract runs until the summer of 2030, and the club has an option for another year, multiple top clubs are still looking to prise him away. The player is reportedly ready to leave Molineux this month if the right offer arrives.

Gomes could join Manchester United in this window

Manchester United have emerged as a potential destination. The Red Devils want to bring in a top midfielder who can help them both in the short and long run. Gomes could become one of their mainstays; as a result, Carrick’s team are contemplating a late move for the Brazilian international.

With Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes’ long-term future uncertain, going all out for an experienced Premier League star certainly makes sense. With Wolves struggling and relegation looking very likely, Gomes is thinking about pushing for a move away.

While United want two new midfielders in 2026, they will only be signing one this window, and Gomes is their priority target. We should certainly keep an eye on this before the transfer deadline.
