Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott is currently on loan at Aston Villa, and they are expected to send him back to the Merseyside club.
Harvey Elliott has struggled for regular opportunities at Aston Villa, with the conditional purchase obligation clause spooking the West Midlands outfit. Aston Villa are not keen for the deal to go through permanently, and therefore, they have not given the player the opportunity to play more often.
According to Dean Smith via Sky Sports, MLS outfit Charlotte FC are interested in the 22-year-old and could make a move for him this month. The Englishman is in desperate need of game time. Sitting on the bench at Aston Villa or Liverpool will not benefit him. It would make sense for him to join an MLS club so that he can play more often.
Dean Smith said, “I put the feelers out, obviously, when I was over there. I was thinking about it and thought, there is an opportunity here. If he is not going to play at Villa and he can’t play anywhere else, then it would be an option for him to come and play some games up until the World Cup break.
“If he is not playing between now and the World Cup, it is a shame. There is an opportunity for him to come out and play here if that is what Liverpool or Villa wanted to do.”
Elliott needs a fresh start
Harvey Elliott is a talent with a bright future, but the move to Aston Villa has not worked out for him. Elliott was an important player for Liverpool last season. Even though the 22-year-old playmaker was not a regular starter, he made impressive contributions as a substitute.
There is no doubt that he is a quality player and could be an asset to the MLS outfit. The Englishman is likely to get regular opportunities for them, and he will add creativity and goals in the final third. He is versatile enough to operate on either flank as well as centrally. He could be the ideal utility man for Charlotte FC.
Liverpool will also hope to place the midfielder in a club where he will get regular opportunities. The youngster does not have a future at Liverpool, and they will look to sell him permanently. If he impresses in the MLS during the second half of the season, they might be able to secure a respectable move for the player at the end of the season.
The promising young English midfielder is still quite young, and he has a lot of room for improvement. Elliott could develop into a top-quality player with the right guidance and regular opportunities.
