Manchester United contemplate bringing Mason Greenwood back to the club with a buy-back clause likely to come in handy.
According to Football Insider, Manchester United are plotting a return for controversial forward Mason Greenwood. The attacker has enjoyed a splendid time in the south of France with Marseille, as the Red Devils could use a buy-back clause to make the move happen.
Mason Greenwood remains a sensitive subject over at Manchester United as well as among their supporters following the previous controversy the forward was involved in. Legally, his name has been cleared, but there’s a moral conundrum among the supporters that could prevent any possible return for the forward to the club.
Greenwood has been a sensational signing for Marseille two years ago, and currently, he has 26 goals and assists this season. His impressive form has attracted a lot of Premier League clubs towards thinking about signing him, but they too remain wary of his controversial past.
Liverpool have also thought about signing Greenwood of late ahead of the summer window, which might create a stirring talking point among the fanbase. Atletico Madrid are also keen, as a move back to Spain remains an option for the 26 G/A Ligue 1 forward.
Manchester United had also considered bringing him back, and once again, the Red Devils are plotting a return for the controversial forward. Whether that would be the right move remains to be seen, although such a move will attract plenty of criticism from their fanbase, especially the ones who watch games at Old Trafford.
Manchester United to re-sign Mason Greenwood?
Greenwood remains a sensitive subject over at Old Trafford, although from a business perspective, Manchester United could consider a move. The Red Devils have a buy-back clause in his contract that allows them to re-sign the 26 G/A Ligue 1 forward for a cut-price deal compared to what his current market value stands at.
However, with the club spending big on forwards last summer, there’s realistically no need for another star such as Greenwood. Even though a move might make sense from a business side of things, there are plenty of obstacles in re-signing him, particularly as Manchester United may fear massive fan backlash.
