Tottenham have decided against sanctioning Mathys Tel’s departure despite growing frustration from the player’s camp.
Mathys Tel’s move to Tottenham Hotspur has not really gone according to plan. With the young French attacker struggling to get regular game time under Thomas Frank, the player is pushing for an exit.
However, the North London club have decided against sanctioning his departure. According to a report from Sky Sports, Tel will not be allowed to leave Spurs this month despite the fact that he is frustrated by the lack of minutes.
In search of a more prominent role, Mathys Tel left Bayern Munich to join Spurs at the start of 2025. He had a very important role in the team during the second half of last season under Ange Postecoglou.
However, a lot has changed since the arrival of Thomas Frank. Tel has gone down the pecking order under the former Brentford boss. He has been involved in 20 matches across competitions, but has racked up less than 800 minutes of first-team action.
Tel won’t be allowed to leave
Mathys Tel is increasingly frustrated by his situation at the club. The 20-year-old wants to leave the club due to a lack of game time. The fact that he has been removed from the Champions League squad to bring Dominic Solanke back has further agitated his camp.
Spurs are aware of how the Frenchman feels, and they are sympathetic to his situation. However, they are going to change their stance regarding his future. As things stand, they have no intentions of sanctioning his departure in the ongoing transfer window, amidst interest from clubs across Europe.
While Frank wanted to keep Tel in the Champions League squad, the only way to get Solanke back was to remove the individual who replaced him following his injury back in September. Since he is no longer a part of their European campaign, the 20-year-old will be hoping to get regular minutes in the Premier League. If that does not happen, things could get very tricky at the end of the season.
