AS Roma yet to give up in race to sign Joshua Zirkzee

AS Roma have not given up on Joshua Zirkzee, with talks taking place for the attacker despite signing two new forwards this month.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, AS Roma retain hope of signing Joshua Zirkzee this month despite Manchester United’s resistance to offloading. Talks are still underway with the Dutch attacker as well as the Red Devils, and that is despite the Italians signing two new strikers this month.

AS Roma were keen to bring Joshua Zirkzee back to Italy this month following reports that the attacker was keen to leave Manchester United. The Dutchman had found it difficult to gain minutes under former boss Dubrn Smorim, and reports stated he was willing to leave even after the Portuguese’s departure.

Zirkzee was expected to join Roma a few weeks back, but Manchester United showed reluctance to lose the attacker at this stage of the season. There was an argument from the club citing the unavailability of Bryan Mbeumo and Amad Diallo, as they were reluctant to sanction an exit for Zirkzee this month.

Things had cooled from Roma’s end, although the report clearly states they are still retaining hope of signing the Manchester United ace. Talks are still underway with the player’s camp as well as the Red Devils, with a decision likely to be made in the final part of the January window.

Any move will depend on Manchester United’s willingness to allow the striker a departure, as well as what interim boss Michael Carrick thinks of him. Hence, there’s still hope for Roma to get a deal in place if they can convince the Red Devils to sell the attacker, considering Gian Piero Gasperini has wanted him for some time now.

Will Roma sign Joshua Zirkzee?

The news that Roma are still pursuing Zirkzee may have come as a bit of a surprise, given that the club have already signed two forwards this month. Donyell Malen joined from Aston Villa on a loan deal with a buy obligation, while they also acquired Robinio Vaz from Marseille to bolster their frontline.

Zirkzee was brilliant for Bologna before he signed for Manchester United, as his specific role is something Gasperini wants in this squad. Hence, Roma are still pushing to get a deal in place for the Manchester United ace, although this move still hangs in the balance as things stand.
