Daniel Farke’s Leeds United are making moves to sign Como’s attacking midfielder Martin Baturina in the ongoing transfer window.
Martin Baturina’s impressive rise has not gone unnoticed, as multiple top clubs are interested in his services. While he hasn’t had much game time since joining Como, interest in his services remains as high as ever.
According to a report from Tuttomercatoweb, Leeds United are interested in acquiring his services as they look to reinforce their squad in an attempt to avoid relegation. Daniel Farke seeks more quality in the final third, and they feel Baturina, who has been labelled as Luka Modric’s heir, could help their cause.
Baturina came up the ranks at Dinamo Zagreb and made quite a name for himself while playing for their first team. His impressive performances for the Croatian club had placed him on the radar of some of the biggest clubs in Europe.
But, Como were quick off the blocks, and they struck a deal worth €18 million to sign the 22-year-old last summer. However, his debut campaign in Italy has not really gone according to plan. With Nico Paz ahead of him in the pecking order, the majority of his appearances have come off the bench.
He has been involved in 13 matches but has racked up just over 350 minutes of first-team action so far. But the Croat has still managed to put in some impressive performances, and he has three goal contributions to his name.
The lack of minutes has not pleased the 22-year-old, who is already considering parting ways with Como. While his contract at the Italian club runs until the summer of 2030, he could make a move away in the ongoing transfer window, whether it will be on loan or a permanent basis remains to be seen.
Leeds United are pushing for Baturina’s signature
Leeds United have emerged as front-runners for his signature. The Yorkshire-based club have had a very difficult start to the season, and they are all set for an intense relegation battle. To bolster their chances of survival, Farke seeks more quality in the final third, and they have their eyes on Baturina, who prefers playing as a number ten but is capable enough to play anywhere in attack.
The Whites have already made an enquiry about the 22-year-old. If Como are ready to sanction his departure on a permanent basis, the price tag, which is expected to be around €22-25 million, won’t be a problem for the Premier League club.
