Manchester United could end up making a move for Brighton star Kaoru Mitoma, after being informed about his availability this month.
While Manchester United are still on the lookout for a new manager, having parted ways with Ruben Amorim, they are also making moves in the winter window to try to bolster their squad. Since they forked out a fortune in the last summer window, the Red Devils need to operate within a set budget, and they are looking for market opportunities.
Manchester United offered chance to sign Mitoma
According to a report from TEAMtalk, the Manchester-based giants have been presented with the opportunity to add more firepower to their attack. They have been made aware of the potential availability of Brighton winger Kaoru Mitoma in the ongoing transfer window.
The Red Devils have a historic interest in the 28-year-old, and they can certainly make a move for his signature. Following the departure of Amorim, United are likely to shift back to a formation that will focus more on goal-scoring wingers, and Mitoma can certainly help their cause.
The Japanese winger has been a part of the Brighton setup since the summer of 2021. He worked hard and established himself as one of their mainstays, and over the years, the 28-year-old has featured in 119 matches and has contributed towards 47 goals.
While he hasn’t been at his best this season and has struggled with injuries, he was on fire in the 2024/25 season, contributing towards 15 goals. The Seagulls even turned down a bid in excess of £50 million from Al-Nassr last January.
Mitoma could switch clubs this month
However, a lot has changed since and with his deal running out in 18 months, Brighton could end up cashing in on him in the ongoing transfer window. Intermediaries are reaching out to different clubs to see if a deal is possible.
They have knocked on Manchester United’s door to understand if they would be interested in having the 28-year-old in their ranks. A lot might depend on who ends up becoming the next Manchester United boss.
