Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United could end up selling 21-year-old homegrown prospect Sam Mather to Kayserispor.
Sam Mather could be heading to Turkiye, as Kayserispor are very keen on signing him. According to a report from Sky Sports, Manchester United are considering cashing in on their academy product, who has yet to make an appearance for their first team.
The 21-year-old winger has been a part of the Manchester United setup since his childhood days. He went up the ranks at some pace and was a part of the United team that won the club’s last FA Youth Cup in 2022, alongside Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho.
While Mainoo and Garnacho have both gone on to achieve great things in the last few years, injuries have hampered Mather’s progress, and he has not been able to push into Manchester United’s first team.
However, the Manchester United under-21 star has some first-team experience under his belt thanks to loan spells at Rochdale and Tranmere Rovers. In the ongoing campaign, he has been involved in six games and has contributed towards two goals.
Mather is closing in on a move to Kayserispor
While Sam Mather certainly has the potential to play at the highest level, the first-team door at Old Trafford seems closed for now. As a result, the homegrown prospect could end up making a move away.
Turkish club Kayserispor are keen on acquiring his services. The relegation-threatened Super Lig outfit wanted to sign the 21-year-old Englishman in the summer transfer window. But they ran out of time and couldn’t get a deal over the line.
The Super Lig outfit are back for the young English prospect’s signature, and they have already tabled a formal offer to add him to their squad in January. Manchester United are considering the bid, and they could actually end up giving the green light to the move.
While his transfer won’t make much of a difference at Manchester United financially, a move away could actually help the 21-year-old Englishman get his career back on track. He could have a prominent role at the Turkish club and get back to his best.
