Barcelona have taken a back seat in their pursuit of Crystal Palace skipper Marc Guehi, while Liverpool step up their interest with an offer.
Marc Guehi could make a decision about his future in the upcoming transfer window, with his contract running out at the end of the season. Barcelona and Liverpool are two of the biggest clubs that are keen on his signature.
But, according to Mundo Deportivo via Sport Witness, the Catalan giants have cooled their interest in the England international because of the finances involved. Meanwhile, Liverpool have already put forward a “very high” offer for the 25-year-old centre-back.
Marc Guehi was on the verge of joining Liverpool on deadline day of the last summer transfer window. However, Oliver Glasner managed to block the deal. While he remains an integral part of Crystal Palace’s first team, his departure is almost certain as he has no intentions of penning a new deal.
The English international is set to leave Crystal Palace at the end of the season as a free agent. While he still has time on his hands, the 25-year-old intends to make a decision on his future in the upcoming transfer window.

Barcelona are one of the clubs that are very keen on his signature. The Blaugrana are massive admirers of the 25-year-old and would love to have him in their squad amidst uncertainty around Andreas Christensen’s future. With Ronaldo Araujo on a break and Inigo Martinez no longer at the club, signing a world-class defender is a top priority for them.
The Catalan giants have already held talks with Marc Guehi’s agents. The meeting took place several weeks back as they were keen on reaching a pre-agreement. However, Barcelona have cooled their interest in him after learning about the finances.
There is a massive difference between what the English international seeks and what the Spanish club can offer because of their poor financial condition. With Barcelona not in a position to secure his services, Liverpool are now the frontrunner.

Liverpool might even have a gentleman’s agreement with the 25-year-old. They have already put forward a very high offer to convince Guehi to join them. With Ibhrima Konate’s future uncertain and Virgil van Dijk in the final phase of his career, the Palace skipper could become one of the cornerstones of their project going forward.
Having presented the English international with a substantial offer, the Reds are confident about getting the green light from the player, who intends to decide on his next club in January.
