Newcastle United are falling behind in the race for midfield target Davide Frattesi, with Juventus in front of the queue.
According to Tutto Sport via Sport Witness, Juventus are leading the race for Davide Frattesi, with Newcastle United currently behind in the chase. Inter Milan are showing some reluctance in letting the midfielder leave in January, although the pressure of playing prominently ahead of the World Cup could let the player make up his mind ahead of the winter window.
Davide Frattesi remains a big subject of discussion within Inter Milan, with the midfielder yet to gain a prominent role in the team. Last season, he had similar struggles in his first campaign with the Nerazzuri under Simone Inzaghi, and the same has continued with Christian Chivu.
The Romanian coach has continued to prefer Inzagghi’s midfield setup as the likes of Hakan Calhanoglu, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Nicolo Barella ahead of the 26-year-old Italian international in the pecking order. Frattesi, for his part, had been performing at a decent level when afforded the opportunity, but there are doubts he would prefer to be the rotational option for long.
With the World Cup looming close, the 26-year-old Italian international wants to be a part of the national side next year, and for that, he needs to play prominently. Hence, a move could be on the cards as a number of Premier League sides are keen.
Newcastle United are mentioned as one of the top contenders, with the Magpies making a late move back in the summer window. Eddie Howe seeks to improve his midfield and would like to unite Frattesi with his international teammate, Sandro Tonali. Newcastle United are firmly interested, but there’s a new top contender in the race for the 26-year-old Italian international.
Juventus to sign Davide Frattesi?
Inter Milan would be reluctant to let him join fellow rivals Juventus, but the nature of Serie A transfers has shown such a move is very much a possibility. The Bianconeri are not clear about what they are prepared to offer, as Inter Milan might look for a permanent solution.
For now, it appears, Juventus are ahead in the race for Frattesi as Newcastle United are falling behind in the pursuit. It remains to be seen where the Inter Milan star ends up, as a decision needs to be made on his future if he aspires to be in the Italian national team squad for the World Cup next summer.
