Leeds United and Nottingham Forest are the Premier League sides interested in a move for Hibernian midfielder Josh Mulligan.
According to Foot Mercato, Josh Mulligan is emerging as a target for Leeds United and Nottingham Forest ahead of the January window. The 23-year-old midfielder may have a release clause of a modest category that could allow clubs to trigger and take him away from Hibernian in the winter window.
Hibernian are hoping that some of the interested clubs in key midfielder Josh Mulligan cool their interest in the 23-year-old. The Scottish star is attracting big interest owing to his performances in the Premiership, as the likes of Leeds United and Nottingham Forest are keen.
The Premier League duo are struggling somewhat this season, and would be active in the January window to strengthen a number of their squad areas. Mulligan often operates in midfield, which is his preferred position on the pitch, as he has been able to switch between central midfield and the position on the right depending on the system deployed in games.
Nottingham Forest are keen to land a new midfielder, and would make do with a profile like Mulligan’s. They are also linked with Lyon’s Tyler Morton among others, as the club are eager for long-term planning as they could anticipate Alliot Anderson’s departure in January or next summer.
Leeds United are also looking for a presence in central midfield, with Galatasaray’s Gabriel Sara one of those on their list of targets. However, they might look at Mulligan as a potential option, especially if the 23-year-old midfielder can be acquired at a lower cost compared to their other targets.
Is Josh Mulligan set for the Premier League?
The report states, Mulligan’s contract has a modest release clause for the winter window, which might make any deal rather straightforward for interested parties. Nottingham Forest and Leeds United will be keen on exploring that aspect to bring the 23-year-old midfielder to England.
However, there’s the small matter of defeating competition from continental sides, as Wolfsburg and LOSC Lille are showing interest in the Scottish midfielder. For now, the Premier League sides might have the edge in the race, although a switch to Germany or France could also be on the cards for the 23-year-old midfielder.
