Nuno Espirito Santo is eager to get the best out of experienced striker Callum Wilson despite notable fitness concerns.
According to Football Insider, Nuno Espirito Santo is eager to get the best out of experienced striker Callum Wilson moving forward. The former Newcastle United man has a long history of fitness concerns, with the West Ham boss ready to get the best out of him in the coming period.
Nuno Espirito Santo has a big task on his hands with regards to solving West Ham United’s goalscoring issues. He has only a handful of options at his disposal, with Callum Wilson and Niclas Fullkrug the senior strikers at the club at present.
Fullkrug has had his own share of fitness concerns since joining the club in the summer of 2024 and missed chunks of his first season with injuries. He remains injured this season, too, as the club could ponder offloading the German in the January window.
Wilson, who joined West Ham on a free transfer in the summer following a long spell at Newcastle United, has his own share of fitness concerns. The Magpies chose not to keep him after he missed a large chunk of last season with injury issues, and they did not want to take their chances as West Ham did.
Wilson has seen an upturn in form of late, and Espirito Santo is eager to get the best out of the forward moving forward. The Portuguese boss wants a focal point presence in the frontline, with his striker being able to dominate the opposition defenders and allow the wingers into the game more. The unreliable West Ham star has so far done his job in recent games, but there’s a lot more to be desired.
Will West Ham sign a new striker?
As West Ham are planning on improving Wilson and offloading Fullkrug, a new striker of the younger variety could be on their agenda ahead of January. There are links to numerous names in the media, with Union Saint-Gilloise star Promise David another big target.
AC Milan’s Santiago Gimenez is also on their list, as West Ham could recruit a new striker to help ease the goalscoring burden placed on Wilson and, more importantly, Jarrod Bowen. Should such an option arrive in the January window, the Hammers could have a rather well-drilled attack for Espirito Santo to use, and possibly avoid relegation.
