Liverpool are considering bringing Ange Postecoglou as Arne Slot’s replacement amid growing pressure on the Dutch manager at Anfield.
According to TEAMtalk, Ange Postecoglou is emerging as a realistic target for Liverpool amid concerns over Arne Slot’s immediate future. The Anfield crowd are in a disgruntled mood following some disappointing results of late, as the Dutchman’s time could potentially end.
The mood around a stadium could often be the precursor to determining if a manager is about to be sacked. In Liverpool’s case, the Anfield crowd have shown plenty of signs of their disgruntlement of late following losses to Nottingham Forest and PSV Eindhoven.
The Anfield crowd began dispersing last weekend when Nottingham Forest scored their third goal, and in the aftermath, reports stated Michael Edwards was prepared to afford Arne Slot time to turn things around. However, the manner of their defeat to PSV Eindhoven on Wednesday night may have forced a change of heart in the Liverpool boardroom.
Now, the pressure is truly on Slot, and he may not even be given time, as talk of a sack is rife in the media. In the struggles earlier, the club backed the Dutchman to turn it around, and that was also the case very recently, but losing three on the trot, including two at Anfield while shipping three or more goals in each of those defeats, has cast dark clouds over the Dutchman’s head.
During the recent struggles, there were links to Flamengo manager Filipe Luis as a potential replacement for Slot, while there are other names mentioned in media reports. However, with the Dutchman now the favourite to be sacked following the PSV result, a surprise name has emerged on Liverpool’s shortlist: Ange Postecoglou.
Ange Postecoglou to replace Arne Slot?
Ange Postecoglou is the latest name on Liverpool’s shortlist of managers to replace Slot, with the Australian currently out of a job following his swift sacking from Nottingham Forest. Liverpool are now mulling over bringing the 60-year-old former Tottenham manager in place of the Dutchman, which may not be a decision that will be widely popular with the Anfield crowd.
The 60-year-old Australian manager might be a candidate given his pedigree with playing top-notch attacking football, but is he the answer to Liverpool’s current woes? While Postecoglou remains a candidate available and ready for a new role, the Reds might look at other names too, although the former Tottenham boss could be a wild card candidate for the job.
