Liverpool, Crystal Palace, Newcastle United, and West Ham United are keen on signing 23-year-old English defender Charlie Cresswell in the coming months.
According to a report by Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Crystal Palace, Liverpool, Newcastle United, and West Ham United are impressed with the performances of former Leeds United defender Charlie Cresswell at Ligue 1 club Toulouse, and they are looking to bring him back to the Premier League.
The Englishman is currently playing for Ligue 1 club Toulouse, and he has done quite well for them. The defender is reportedly valued at £15 million, and he could prove to be a bargain at that price.
Liverpool need to bring in a quality central defender in the coming months, and it will be interesting to see if they decide to sign Cresswell. The £15 million asking price is quite nominal for a club of their resources, and they should be able to get the deal done. The Reds will need to replace Ibrahima Konaté if the French defender decides to leave the club in the summer. The Englishman could prove to be the ideal long-term replacement.
Crystal Palace, Newcastle United, and West Ham also keen
Meanwhile, Crystal Palace need to sign a quality defender as well. Marc Guehi will leave the club when his contract expires in the summer, and they need to replace the England international, who has coincidentally attracted interest from Liverpool. Charlie Cresswell would be ideal for them.
As for Newcastle United, they have ageing defenders like Fabian Schar and Dan Burn at their disposal. The Magpies need to add more quality and depth for the long term, and signing the former Leeds United defender could be ideal for them.
West Ham have looked quite vulnerable defensively this season, and they have started the season poorly. They need to tighten up at the back to bounce back strongly. The Hammers need to sign a quality defender for the future, and the 23-year-old could be ideal for them.
Cresswell has all the tools to develop into a top-class Premier League defender, and he could be an asset for the Hammers if they manage to get the deal done. Interestingly, West Ham also wanted to sign the youngster in the summer transfer window before the deal failed to materialise.
All four clubs have the resources to pay £15 million for Cresswell, and it will be interesting to see where he ends up. The opportunity to return to the Premier League will be quite exciting for the 23-year-old Englishman, and he will look to establish himself as a key player in the English top flight.
