Manchester United have reportedly expressed an interest in signing Lucien Agoume ahead of January, but face competition from rivals.
According to Africa Foot, Manchester United have expressed an interest in exploring a move for Lucien Agoume ahead of January. The Red Devils are eager to bring in a holding midfielder in the winter market, with the Sevilla star seen as a possible target, although they will face competition from rivals.
Manchester United were eager to sign a holding midfielder in the summer, but failed to do so owing to many factors. Brighton & Hove Albion’s Carlos Baleba was their ideal target, but the price point mentioned in the media, as well as the Seagulls not even considering the prospect of a sale, scuppered any chances to sign him.
The Red Devils are not expected to return for Baleba in the winter market, although they are prioritising a holding midfielder in January. Many other names have been mentioned in media reports, including Sevilla star Lucien Agoume.
Manchester United did consider Agoume during the summer as they began prioritising a midfielder signing. However, they never made an approach to test Sevilla’s resolve, which could change ahead of the winter transfer window, as they ponder exploring a move for the 23-year-old midfield powerhouse.
La Liga club Sevilla are demanding at least €30 million to sell Agoume, who remains tied down until 2028. Should Manchester United or any other interested party make an effort to pay as much as the Spanish side wants, a January move could certainly be on the cards.
Manchester United face competition for Lucien Agoume
Manchester United are not alone in the race for Agoume, as there are other teams keen on the 23-year-old midfielder. Back in the summer, Arsenal were keen on the Sevilla midfielder before settling for the experience of Christian Norgaard.
Brighton & Hove Albion are also interested in Agoume, and interestingly, he could be a replacement for Manchester United-linked Baleba. Overall, the Red Devils are likely to give it a go for the 23-year-old La Liga midfield powerhouse ahead of the January window, as his arrival would certainly strengthen the midfield for Ruben Amorim’s side.
