Tottenham eyeing Maghnes Akliouche swoop

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly eyeing 23-year-old AS Monaco whizkid Maghnes Akliouche over a possible summer move.

According to an update by Sebastien Vidal via X, Tottenham Hotspur are keeping a close watch on Maghnes Akliouche as they weigh up their next creative reinforcement following James Maddison’s injury setback. The AS Monaco playmaker has been one of Ligue 1’s standout performers over the past year, and his versatility has made him one of Europe’s most sought-after young talents.

Akliouche has enjoyed a breakout season in France, contributing 19 goals in all competitions and catching the eye with his vision, dribbling, and ability to operate across the attacking line. While he is most comfortable cutting inside from the right flank, his adaptability to play centrally or on the left makes him a valuable asset for managers who prize tactical flexibility.

Competition from European heavyweights

The Frenchman’s rise has not gone unnoticed. Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester City, and Manchester United have all expressed interest, with reports suggesting a potential bidding war could unfold this summer.

Pep Guardiola is believed to admire Akliouche’s left-footed craft and technical precision, qualities that could make him a natural successor to Bernardo Silva at City. Meanwhile, Manchester United’s recruitment team is understood to have added him to their shortlist, viewing him as a player who could bring flair and unpredictability to their forward line.

Despite this heavyweight competition, Tottenham have quietly stepped up their scouting efforts, signalling they are ready to test AS Monaco’s resolve. Akliouche was part of the Ligue 1 side that won the silver medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics. He will now aim to push on and make a mark in the game.

Huge asking price

AS Monaco are reportedly open to a sale if the right offer arrives. Initial valuations earlier in the summer hovered around £50-58 million, but recent French media reports now claim the Ligue 1 side will seek closer to £59-67 million given the scale of interest.

Crucially for Spurs, AS Monaco are said to prefer selling to a Premier League club rather than strengthening domestic rivals PSG, whose pursuit has caused internal concern in the Principality. That preference could give Tottenham an edge if they decide to formalise their interest.

Previous Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou relied heavily on Maddison to dictate tempo and unlock deep-lying defences, but his injury has left a creative void for Thomas Frank. Akliouche’s ability to drift between lines, play incisive passes, and carry the ball under pressure fits the profile of a player who could immediately slot into Spurs’ attacking structure.

For Tottenham’s hierarchy, the decision now centres on whether to move quickly to secure his signature or monitor the situation until later in the window. With competition fierce and Monaco’s price holding firm, any hesitation risks losing out to one of Europe’s elite.
