Newcastle United are among a quartet of clubs keen on wantaway winger Antony, with Manchester United demanding €58 million for the Brazilian.
According to Fichajes, Antony is attracting plenty of attention from many clubs ahead of the summer. A quartet of clubs, including Newcastle United, are interested in the wantaway winger, with Manchester United slapping a €58 million asking price on the Brazilian attacker.
Manchester United have a big task at hand with regards to offloading some of their high-profile stars. A host of players are deemed unwanted by Ruben Amorim, but the Red Devils are struggling to sell the likes of Alejandro Garnacho, Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Tyrell Malacia and Antony.
The latter seems like the closest through the exit door, but there might be a new twist in the market following Manchester United’s decision to slap a €58 million asking price. Whether some of the interested parties are keen on making the move now remains the question, which potentially rules out Real Betis, who had planned on opening fresh talks for the winger to take him on loan after he contributed to 14 goals at the club in the second half of last season.
Antony was also ready to take a pay cut to join Real Betis, but it appears the Andalusian outfit may not have the finances to get a deal in place. However, there are a quartet of teams looking closely, including Bayer Leverkusen, managed by former Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag. Others who are present in the race are RB Leipzig, Brighton & Hove Albion and Newcastle United.
The Magpies are in the market for attacking reinforcements and could view favourably at the availability of Antony. The winger’s resurgent performances in the second half of last season, while on loan at Real Betis, produced 14 goals and assists, which will appeal to the Magpies, as they could also pay closer to the asking price.
Will Newcastle United sign Antony?
There might be sufficient interest, although this could also have been before they managed to sign Anthony Elanga from Nottingham Forest. The Swedish winger also plays on the right side of the front three, and while he has a very different profile to that of Antony, the idea of Newcastle United splashing on another right-winger seems remote.
Hence, there are considerable doubts whether the Magpies will make contact with Manchester United for Antony, especially at the prices being quoted. Moreover, Newcastle United are now focused on bringing in a striker after their recent tussle with Liverpool, as they will now look for an alternative to Hugo Ekitike.
