Barcelona are considering a move for Arsenal winger Gabriel Martinelli, while Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford remains on their wishlist.
According to a report from Fichajes, Barcelona are set to prioritise the signing of a new left-winger this summer and they have their eyes set on Gabriel Martinelli and Marcus Rashford. While the Manchester United star is their priority target, they are also considering making a move for the Arsenal winger, who could prove to be a more realistic target because of their financial situation.
The Catalan giants have had an exceptional campaign under Hansi Flick as they won the La Liga and the Copa del Rey. They even went deep in the Champions League. While it’s an exciting start to a new era, they have identified a few key areas that need reinforcement heading into next summer.
Barcelona want a new left-winger this summer
The Spanish club seek more quality on the left flank. They want someone who can compete with Raphinha for a place in the starting XI. Sporting director, Deco, is leading their charge and is closely monitoring the market’s development as he waits for clarity on whether the club can operate under a 1:1 rule in La Liga.
This will have a significant impact on what kind of moves they will be able to make this summer amidst their ongoing financial crisis. If they can go ahead with the 1:1 rule, the departure of Ansu Fati and a few other youth players could give them the funds to land a top-quality winger this summer.
Marcus Rasford is their top priority for the summer. The English winger is set to part ways with Manchester United permanently and he is keen on joining the Catalan giants. However, the financial side of things could complete things as the Red Devils want €48 million.
Barcelona are considering signing Martinelli
While Barcelona are looking at the option, it will be interesting to see if United are interested in such a move. Meanwhile, they are also looking at other targets and Arsenal’s Gabriel Martinelli is believed to be quite high on their wishlist.
The 23-year-old has had an impressive rise at the North London club and he could certainly be a great acquisition for the long run. He could be an ideal fit in Flick’s system thanks to his impressive work rate. But signing him won’t be that straightforward as the Gunners will demand a sizeable fee with two years still left on his deal.
