Ryan Mason closing in on joining West Bromwich Albion

Tottenham Hotspur assistant manager Ryan Mason is reportedly close to joining West Bromwich Albion as their new boss.

According to a report from Football Insider, Ryan Mason is close to finalising a deal to become the new West Bromwich Albion manager. The Championship club are in advanced discussions with the Tottenham assistant, with a breakthrough expected in the coming days.

After being forced to retire at just 26, Mason went into coaching just a few months later. He began his journey with Tottenham’s youth setup in 2018 and has remained part of the club ever since. The 33-year-old has been associated with their first team since 2021, and he has even taken charge as their caretaker manager on two occasions following the sacking of Antonio Conte and Jose Mourinho.

The Englishman has managed Tottenham senior side in 13 matches, and he has done a decent job. Currently, he is a part of Ange Postecoglou’s coaching staff. While Mason’s contract at the club runs until 2027, he could end up parting ways this summer amidst strong interest from West Brom.

The Championship outfit are looking for a new manager after parting ways with Tony Mowbray towards the end of April. Mowbray’s spell lasted just three months after he took over from Carlos Corberan, who left to join Valencia midway through the season.

West Brom ended the season with James Morrison as their interim boss, and they are now looking to bring in a new manager who could help them fulfil their desire to secure a return to the Premier League.

Mason front-runner for the job

While West Brom wanted to push for a return to the Premier League last season, things did not go according to plan, and they are looking to try again in the 2025/26 season under new management. Ryan Mason might not have any experience of managing a senior side, but his small stints as a caretaker suggest he has the qualities to be a top-level manager.

They have been in talks with the 33-year-old for over a week now. Those talks are believed to be at an advanced stage and a deal could be finalised soon. Mason is believed to be the clear front-runner for the job following the talks between the two parties.

The Englishman will certainly have a massive task as hand as West Brom are set to lose some of their top players in the summer. He will not only have to rebuild the squad but also ensure that they push for a return to the Premier League.
